Michaela Fuehrer, FNP-C, an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) with Yale Digestive Diseases, was recently chosen to be part of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Foundation’s Emerging Liver Advanced Practice Provider Program. As an awardee, she is one of 10 advanced practice providers (APPs) to receive a grant covering expenses to attend the AASLD Liver Meeting, on Nov. 10–14, 2023, in Boston, Mass.

“I am honored to be an Emerging Liver Advanced Practice Provider and excited to attend the conference this year,” Fuehrer said.

Fuehrer, who specializes in hepatology, practices in the Liver Home, an outpatient program that offers multidisciplinary care for individuals with cirrhosis to improve outcomes and decrease emergency room visits and hospitalizations. “I focus on the treatment of alcohol-related cirrhosis through the transitional care clinic, which acts as a bridge for patients moving from the hospital to the outpatient clinic,” she said.

Fuehrer looks forward to gathering with a diverse community at the conference this fall to learn about the latest research and breakthroughs in hepatology. “It’s a great opportunity to connect with both experts and fellow APPs who are new to the field,” she said.

The award is a wonderful jumping off point for new providers in hepatology, Fuehrer adds. “Through the program, I hope to continue gaining knowledge about general hepatology, broaden my network of mentors and colleagues, and grow my clinical practice,” she said.

Since forming one of the nation’s first sections of hepatology more than 75 year ago and then gastroenterology nearly 70 years ago, Yale’s Section of Digestive Diseases has had an enduring impact on research and clinical care in gastrointestinal and liver disorders.
