About Us

The Yale Section of General Internal Medicine includes nearly 140 full-time faculty who are committed to the core missions of research, education, clinical patient care, and community service of Yale School of Medicine. Section faculty are based at Yale campuses located in New Haven, West Haven, and Waterbury, Connecticut. The section is nationally recognized in education, patient care, and research. Our research programs focus on core issues in general internal medicine including the epidemiology and outcomes in common chronic diseases (cardiovascular disease, stroke, HIV/AIDS, addiction, and cancer), health policy, health disparities, occupational and environmental medicine, quality & safety, medical education, and the medical humanities. Several section faculty lead major educational programs for Yale medical students, residents, and fellows. Our clinical program includes five primary care clinics, along with specialized programs in areas such as occupational health and addiction. Our faculty also oversee major inpatient services at our three hospitals.

Community programs of the section are an outgrowth of our research, educational, and clinical programs. Community-based research in areas such as addiction, occupational medicine, and chronic disease management provide unique service opportunities for members of the greater New Haven community. In addition, multidimensional programs including the Transitions Program provide outreach to our neighbors. Each of our clinical sites including over five primary care practices contribute significantly to the care of the underserved in our community while providing invaluable educational experiences for our trainees.

The Section of General Internal Medicine includes a vibrant and diverse group of faculty who are national leaders in their respective fields and are committed to excellence and scholarship in research, education, clinical care, and community service.
