Gynecologic Pathology Fellowship

Description

This Fellowship is a one-year program in diagnostic gynecologic pathology. The Fellowship consists of specialty gynecologic pathology sign-out training and involvement in ongoing academic investigations of various gynecologic diseases. The Fellowship training on the Yale Gynecologic Pathology Service benefits from the outstanding clinical material afforded by the Yale New Haven Hospital’s world class gynecologic oncology service. The in-house case material is supplemented by the unique and rare consult cases from all over the U.S. and around the world. This setting generates approximately 15,000 specimens per year. The teaching faculty are highly experienced and enjoy world class reputation in diagnostic and investigative gynecologic pathology. The academic training environment is highly dynamic and exciting.

Educational Objectives

• Competency in the morphologic diagnosis of all types of gynecologic specimens
• Ability to incorporate molecular and other ancillary techniques into the practice of gynecologic pathology
• Ability to understand the clinical impact of the diagnoses of gynecologic diseases
• Ability to communicate pathological diagnosis with clinicians and their service teams
• Ability to perform research projects and to write manuscripts for publication

Primary commitment will be given to an active clinical service. Fellows are an integral part of patient care at YNHH. They have a major role in the preparation and presentation in Gynecologic clinical conferences. The fellow education is through assigned responsibilities and supplemented by seminars given by Yale faculty and invited lecturers to the Department of Pathology. Rotations through molecular diagnostic and other specialty services are available. Fellows also assist in the training of first and second year residents in gynecologic pathology and are expected to conduct translational research projects under the supervision of core teaching faculty. Research may be also undertaken as part of active interdepartmental research programs aimed at understanding the pathobiology and improving the diagnosis and management of the diseases.

Requirements

Three years of training in anatomic pathology or four years combined anatomic and clinical pathology; board certification in anatomic pathology is desirable.

Stipends

Stipends commensurate with hospital policy.
