Biography

Since 2013 I am engaged with genome-wide sequencing and the cutting-edge realm of next-generation sequencing technologies. Over the years, I have been deeply involved in research projects funded by both international and local foundations, focusing primarily on the population genetics of relict, endemic, and threatened species of the Caucasus region. This work has allowed me to develop a keen understanding of genetic diversity, adaptation, and the unique challenges faced by these species. In 2016, I had the honor of being selected as a Fulbright Scholar, affording me the opportunity to collaborate with the Todd Castoe Laboratory at the University of Texas, Arlington, USA. During this time, I gained valuable insights into the design and utilization of genetic markers for population genetics and phylogenetic analyses. This experience enriched my skills and further broadened my perspective on leveraging genetic information to unravel evolutionary relationships.

My association with the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 2014 and 2015 provided invaluable exposure to advanced techniques in shotgun genomic DNA library preparation for NGS applications, quality-based data trimming, genome assembly, and genomic data analysis. These intensive trainings empowered me with the tools to handle large-scale genomic datasets, a skillset that complements my passion for molecular genetics and genomics.

Throughout my academic journey, I have maintained an active role at Ilia State University since 2008. I have progressively held positions of research associate, manager of the molecular genetic laboratory, and assistant professor before attaining the rank of associate professor in 2012. My commitment to education is evident in my teaching philosophy, which revolves around cultivating critical thinking, curiosity, and a strong foundational understanding of molecular genetics. I have taught a diverse range of students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, fostering an interactive and engaging learning environment.

My dedication to mentorship extends beyond the classroom, as I have guided numerous students in their research projects. Witnessing their transformation from eager learners to confident contributors to the scientific community has been an immensely rewarding aspect of my career.
