The Cinema and Psychiatry group aims to discuss the cinematic and media portrayal of psychiatric disease with the goal of tackling stigma, better understanding public perception of psychiatrists and psychiatric conditions, and enhancing our comprehension of the personal experiences of the patients we serve. This psychiatry resident-led group organizes events open to medical students and all residents, and features film discussions led by Yale faculty speakers with expertise in the relevant area of psychiatry portrayed in the film.
Prior movies discussed during monthly meetings have included "The Stanford Prison Experiment," "Inside Out," "13th," "Room" and "Moonlight." Our film screenings have featured exciting speakers ranging from regular favorite Dr. Richard Kravitz to Yale Theater Studies Dr. Tavia Nyong'o. Screening locations have included the Madison Art Cinemas, and we aim to feature a variety of venues to allow for enhanced viewing and discussion.
