About Dr. KrasnerAaron Krasner studied English literature and Hispanic Studies at Northwestern University College of Arts and Sciences in Evanston, IL where he earned a BA with honors. Upon graduation he joined Teach for America as a bilingual educator in California and worked in primary education in the California Public School system for four years, studying pedagogy and bilingual education. He left teaching for medicine, captivated by the individual medical and psychological needs of his fascinating students and families, and completed a post baccalaureate degree in pre-medical studies from Mills College and his MD at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University in Chicago, IL where he helped start a free mental health clinic and became class president.
Dr. Krasner completed his adult and child and adolescent training in psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University, where he gained experience treating substance abuse disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, psychotic disorders, and personality disorders in children, adolescents, and adults with evidence based psychotherapies and medications. He is now an Instructor in Clinical Psychiatry in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division at Columbia University. Dr. Krasner has published basic science papers about the genetics of schizophrenia as well as a review about the utility of Mentalization Based Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder and has presented research findings, clinical work, and workshops at Columbia University and beyond. His most recent research focuses on social media use in the New York State Public Psychiatry System, the development of a novel curriculum for clinical teaching of medical students at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, and the study of ADHD in a low birthweight preterm cohort with Agnes Whitaker MD. He continues to teach in a number of capacities including as a preceptor for Project Turnaround for Children (http://turnaroundusa.org), in the NYS Office of Education, and in several school districts throughout the region. He most recently joined the faculty at Silver Hill Hospital as the director of the Adolescent Transitional Living Program (http://www.silverhillhospital.org/Home.aspx).
