Biography

Dr. Maung has certifications from the American Board of Surgery in General Surgery and in Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Maung earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his medical degree cum laude from University of Pittsburgh. He has residency training in general surgery from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. He was fellowship trained in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Surgery at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Maung’s clinical interests include trauma surgery, surgical critical care, shock, and emergency general surgery. His research interests include mechanical ventilation, ventilator weaning, and improvements in trauma care.

Dr. Maung has presented at a number of national meetings and has been an invited discussant at the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma. He also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.

He has received numerous honors and recognition, which include the Shock Trauma Hero Award, University of Maryland; and the Marshall K. Bartlett Research Fellowship, Massachusetts General Hospital.

    Volunteer Tactical Police Surgeon to the Connecticut South Central Regional Special Weapons and Tactics Unit. Provided tactical medical education as well as medical care during training and field deployments.
