Created in December 2020 and inaugurated in June 2021, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Internal Medicine (ODEIM) supports and implements the department’s DEI plan.

The ODEIM is led by Benjamin Mba, MBBS, MRCP (UK), CHCQM, FACP, as the department’s vice chair for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. He also serves as the graduate medical education (GME) director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for YNHHS and Yale School of Medicine.

The DEI team within the Department of Internal Medicine and Graduate Medical Education has created a robust structure and made significant strides in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will build on their outstanding work and continue to strive for more diversity across our organization. Diversity makes our community stronger, safer, and wiser. Diversity in any academic community creates a sum far more significant than its components; an unparalleled ability to harness the strengths of diversity to shape the future positively for generations to come.
