Administrative Leadership in Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences

For Whom:
Post-resident who aspires to administrative leadership positions in Private or Academic Practice.

Overview:
Throughout the 24 month cycle, the candidate will begin an administrative fellowship to a Board eligible or certified Obstetric Gynecologist who aspires to administrative leadership position. By having an active clinical presence in the our department, the fellow will become experienced in much of the clinical activities in the department, as well as provide insight into the management challenges of an academic clinical department.

During the two year program, beginning in July, the candidate will begin a clinical fellowship in General Obstetrics or Gynecology in the department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences and complete the MBA program at the School of Management. In addition, the fellow will play a leadership role on one or more projects from the Chairman’s office. Such projects may include (not limited to): operational or capital budgeting of new programs; compensation/incentive development for staff; process/quality improvement; strategic planning; or marketing.

Requirements:
The candidate will submit three letters of recommendation (two from clinical mentors/ colleagues, and one from an academic/administrative mentor who can attest to the candidates leadership potential; a recent GMAT score (less than four years old); and affirmation that they will have completed one year of post-graduate experience as of the start date.

Format:
The candidate will work either 4 shifts/such as a Laborist or 4 days in the Gynecology Clinic and the Gynecology call pool. The fellow will function as an independent clinician, though their work will be proctored and reviewed on a regular basis. Beginning in late July, the candidate will begin the MBA – Leadership in Healthcare program at the Yale School of Management. The fellow will spend 3 full weeks on campus and alternating Friday/Saturday session on campus; he/she will also have the opportunity to participate in the international experience (a 12 day trip with 20 – 40 MBA students).

The fellow will NOT be scheduled for clinical work during the period leading up to, nor including, the residence/MBA class times. The fellowship will conclude after 24 months, with the fellow receiving a certificate of completion of fellowship from Yale Obstetrics & Gynecology as well as the MBA degree from Yale University. The fellow will receive a salary of $90,000, and the cost of the MBA program will be covered by Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences. In addition, the fellow will receive additional remuneration for any additional shifts he/she voluntarily accepts, when available, beyond the stated required shifts. The fellow will receive a book/travel allowance of $1,500 dollars per year, which may be applied to the international experience cost. Space in the department will be provided.

Applicant must also apply and be accepted to the MBA for Executives: Leadership in Healthcare Program and be eligible to be credentialed by Yale New-Haven Hospital.
