First Aid for Feelings: A Workbook to Help Kids Cope During the Coronavirus Pandemic is a free workbook from the Yale Child Study Center–Scholastic Collaborative, written by child development expert Denise Daniels, RN, MS. This comforting resource is designed to help children alleviate stress and anxiety and to provide a sense of control during changing times. The workbook will encourage children to express their thoughts and feelings while providing parents and caregivers with simple strategies to help kids handle emotions.

As parents struggle to cope with the sudden changes and stresses brought about by COVID-19, it’s important to remember that children may also be experiencing stress and anxiety during this time, although they may express it in different ways than adults. The Yale Child Study Center and Scholastic teamed up to create a workbook to help children and parents express emotions in a healthy way. “Kids take their cues from adults,” says Leah Booth, MA, of the Child Study Center. “So if adults are able to model calm and resiliency, then that will be modeled by the child.”
